Cervical tissue samples (CBs)

You have just had the above procedure performed to rule out cell changes on your cervix. Cell changes occur due to a sexually transmitted virus called human papillomavirus (HPV).

After the procedure, you may experience bleeding for a few days to a week. In some cases, a gauze pad will be placed in the vagina after the procedure. If you are informed that this has been done, it must be removed that same evening at bedtime.

If heavy bleeding subsequently occurs, you must remain calm, and in the event of persistent heavy bleeding or a new fever outside of daytime hours, you must contact 1813. It is rare for the procedure to cause discomfort other than bleeding.

You will typically receive a response to the tissue sample within 14 days. The response can be obtained either by email, or by contacting the clinic during our sample response time between 08.30-09.00, Monday-Thursday on our main number.
