Treatment schedule

Lichen Sclerosus is a skin disease of unknown cause. The skin often becomes hard, white due to reduced pigment, narrows and shrinks slightly. With treatment, the symptoms can almost disappear, or be kept to a minimum.

Initial treatment:

  • Weeks 1-4 Apply Dermovat in the evening before bed.

  • Week 5-6 Apply Dermovat every other evening

  • 7th-8th week Apply Dermovat 2-3 times a week

If there is no effect, contact your doctor.

Maintenance treatment:

Apply Dermovat x 1 per week or Mildison lipid 2-3 times a week. Use emollient cream morning and evening, e.g. Vulva Lipbalm, Warming base cream, or locobase repair. Or Ovestin cream 2 times a week, if we have agreed. (creams are available at "props and pearls") Use e.g. coconut or almond oil instead of soap and preferably on a cotton pad that you wipe yourself with before taking a shower. This is to avoid drying out the skin. Avoid soap.

You should be careful to examine yourself. If changes occur or if symptoms do not disappear during treatment, you should contact a doctor. You should have routine check-ups with a doctor about once a year. You will get the most benefit from your treatment if you follow the schedule.

Patient association: Lichen sclerosus association DSVL - Danish Society for Vulvar Diseases.
